A barren couple, Mr and Mrs Ayogbile alongside a trado- medical practitioner have landed in police net over the sale of a baby in Ipaja, Lagos state.
Vanguard reports that the trado-medical practitioner, Onolaja Olawale, allegedly sold the two-week, four-day-old baby to the couple, who have been barren for about six years for N136,000, after informing them that the mother was late.
But co-tenants of the Ayogbiles, who had never seen the wife pregnant before, were reported to have contacted the police when they saw her with the infant.
Mr Fatai Owoseni, the Lagos state commissioner of police, who paraded the suspects before journalists yesterday, rightly informed that the baby was sold to the couple,

“I collected N130,000 from the new mother, Mrs Oluwakemi Ayogbinle, and an additional N6,000 which I said would be used to process adoption forms at Alausa, Ikeja, to avoid any embarrassment. I even gave the biological mother N70,000 out of the money.
“The actual amount I told the new parents was N300,000. But they only paid N136,000,” he explained.
The biological mother of the baby however, denied knowledge of the sale of her baby, let alone collecting any money from Olawale, as she argued that she was expecting to collect her baby after one week after she had developed trust for the family.
Mrs Ayogbile, who reportedly bought the baby, blamed her ordeal on her six-year barrenness, and because she had been abandoned by her husband.

She said: “I have been taking herbs from Mr Olawale since 2013 because of the incessant miscarriages. After several effort to get pregnant proved abortive, my husband left our home last year.
“At a point, Olawale suggested I should adopt a baby. He called me on Monday to come for a baby. I decided to contact my husband because of the amount Olawale demanded. But my husband insisted that he must have documents to back up the adoption before he would take the baby. So, he brought N136,000 as part payment.”
Only yesterday, a child trafficking syndicate was nabbed by the Police in Abuja, as facts also emerged on some women who take ladies abroad for prostitution.
