NFF Reveals AFCON 2017 Targets

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set a target of 13 points for Sunday Oliseh in the qualifiers for the 2017 AFCON. NFF President Amaju Pinnick A top official of the NFF told AfricanFootball.com that the general consensus on the board is that Nigeria might not be able to topple Egypt as Group G leaders but a target of 13 points will suffice to qualify as best losers.
The official said: “This will qualify us for the AFCON, notwithstanding Egypt’s other results in the qualifiers.
The best losers in AFCON qualifiers qualify with at least 12 points but the NFF will take nothing for granted.
“And that is not taking into consideration the fact that we cannot beat Egypt in Cairo and Tanzania will not give Egypt a hard time at home as they did for us this month.”
The unnamed official revealed that qualification by any means for AFCON 2017 was the minimum expectation. To achieve the 13-point aim, Nigeria must win next year’s home and away qualifying game against Egypt , win an away match with Chad and a home win against Tanzania.
Therefore, the outstanding home matches against Egypt and Tanzania is expected to be a win.
Egypt lead Group G with six points from two matches, while the Super Eagles is stucked in the second place of the table with four points from two matches.
