IGP Ban Police From using commercial vehicles for operations and patrol duties

The inspector general of police (IGP), Solomon Arase, has ordered all police commands and formations to desist from using commercial vehicles for operations and patrol duties. A statement issued by Olabisi Kolawole, the force’s public relations officer, on Thursday, September 3, in Abuja said that the directive had been circulated to all police formations and commands across the country.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) the statement explained that the IGP’s decision was due to the regular complaints by members of the public.

It also added that there were immense negative consequences associated with such practices by the police.
The statement further warned against the abuse of the order by any police unit, saying non compliance would attract severe sanctions.

The inspector general of police in a renewed effort to rid the country of crime, recently donated 15 patrol vehicles to the Kano state police command to bolster security and protect the lives and property of the citizens.
